All that Glitters Square Card

Published by Darlene McCallum under Card Samples

Stampin' Up! Canada

Some days just need a little glitz!

For this card, I used Fine Galaxy Glitter, various circle punches and Sticky Pages to create glittery circles. I punched the circles and then applied them to my Shimmery White cardstock by peeling off the white backing and leaving the red side face up.

I peeled the backing off a few circles at a time and covered them with a single colour of glitter applying a bit of pressure with my finger to help the glitter stick. I repeated with the second colour and then the third tapping off the excess glitter each time.

Please let me know if you have any questions on this card by leaving a comment or contacting me. Have a glittery day!

Simply Circles – Sweet Pea Designer Series Paper Stack

Stampin' Up! Canada

The new Sweet Pea Designer Series Paper Stack has lots of designs and patterns. And the same colours are used multiple times on different pieces. That makes it so easy to create fun and simple cards like this one.

I choose to highlight Taken with Teal, one of the many colours used in this paper stack. The other colours are: Old Olive, Rose Red, So Saffron, Pretty in Pink, Pumpkin Pie, Chocolate Chip and Sahara Sand.  And the Sweet Pea Paper matches wonderfully with the new Sweet Pea Stitched Felt.  If you haven’t ordered the Sweet Pea Stitched Felt yet, it is a must have!

To make this card, I punched 1/2" circles from various patterns in the Sweet Pea paper stack that had Taken with Teal in them. And I had alot of papers to choose from. Next, I punched a few larger circles with the 3/4" punch and adhered all of the circles to the page. On the larger circles, I used Stampin’ Dimensionals for a bit of height.

To finish, I stamped my "thanks" greeting from the Thank You Kindly stamp set with Basic Black ink and glued the layers of cardstock together. This card was so quick to make and I can easily see changing the greeting for birthdays and other occasions. Hope you like it!

For All You Do Swing Card

Stampin' Up! Canada For All You Do Stamp Set

I have been making alot of Swing cards lately but this in one of my favourites. I love making mono-chromatic cards. This card uses only Soft Suede ink, cardstock and papers with Whisper White embellishments.

The first few Swing cards you make can be tricky but once you have the hang of it, they are very straight forward to make. I used some papers from the Thoroughly Modern designer series package on this card. If you only buy one package of designer series paper, make it this one. I use it all the time. On this card, I also used some white ribbon and brads to dress it up a bit.

Please let me know if you have any questions on the tutorial below by posting a comment or contact me.

Below is a photo of the swing card open. This is a great two-sided card perfect for giving to someone special.

Swing Card

Cut a piece of cardstock to 5-1/2” x 6-3/4” to make the card.

Stampin' up! Canada - Swing Card Step 1

Place the cardstock horizontally into the paper trimmer.

Line the paper up at 2-3/4” and score 1-1/4” in from both the top and the bottom edge.

Move cardstock to 4” and score again at 1-1/4” from both the top and bottom edge.

Stampin' up! Canada - Swing Card Step 2

Turn your cardstock and insert it in paper trimmer until it is lined up at 4-1/4”.

Be sure you are using the cutting blade.

Line the blade up at 1-1/4” from the bottom and cut up to the score line.

Keeping the paper in place, line the cutting blade up at 5-1/4" and cut down to other score line.

Turn the paper and repeat this step on the other side.

Stampin' Up! Canada - Swing Card Step 3

Turn the cardstock so it is horizontal again and line the paper up at 1-1/4.

Cut between the two corners.

Repeat on the other side by turning cardstock and re-inserting it at 1-1/4".

Decorate the card to finish.

Simply Adorned, How Charming!

Simply Adorned

Stampin’ Up! and Jewelry?  Who’d have thought it?

But here it is. And I have received so many compliments on my chains and charms.

Simply Adorned charms are lockets–they open up so you can insert your custom stamped image. The Charming stamp set, along with Rub-Ons, glitter, ribbons, and other embellishments, can help you create your unique charm insert. And don’t forget that you can embellish the chains with ribbon, felt flowers . . . the possibilities are endless! The frame surrounds tempered beveled glass on the front and flat glass on the back. Because there’s glass on both sides of the charm, you can display an image on one side or both. You can create a custom heirloom piece that you’ll never want to change, or you can swap artwork in and out, depending on your mood and your wardrobe.

And although we designed Simply Adorned charms to be jewelry, they also make delightful key chains or ornaments. Insert a stamped image or photo of your loved ones, tie a ribbon through the clasp, and you’re done!

To start, I recommend purchasing the 34" chain as it can be worn long or wrapped around the neck twice for a shorter necklace as I’m wearing it below.

Simply Adorned Charm

Or maybe you prefer a bracelet. The bracelets are 8" long with a toggle close so they can be shortened if necessary. Also, for more options, you can tie some pretty ribbon to either end of the bracelet and wear it around you neck for a different look.

All of the Simply Adorned pieces come in a stylish chocolate chip box perfect for gift giving. Even if the gift is for you.

Technique Tuesday – Faux Tile

Stampin' Up! Framed with Love Stamp Set

I took a class more than 11 years ago that taught me how to make faux tiles. They were gorgeous! We made all kinds of shapes and all kinds of colour combination. I don’t keep alot of the cards I make preferring to give them away but I still have the cards from that class.

But until today, I had never made the Faux Tile technique again. I don’t know why. It’s certainly not hard and it uses supplies I already own.

Faux Tile Technique

Here is a close up of the tile so you can see the detail. I am really happy with how this tile turned out.

Stampin' Up!

You don’t need alot of supplies for faux tiles. For this card, I punched a circle from Kraft cardstock. The Kraft is a little bit heavier so I knew it would work well. My punch is a 1-3/8 circle so it fits the image I want to stamp.  I used Glassy Glaze embossing powder but clear will also work.

Stampin' Up!

The first colour of Craft ink used was Night of Navy. I covered the circle with ink and then Glassy Glaze embossing powder. Next, I melted the powder with my Heat Gun and let the circle cool completely.

Tip: If you hold your heat tool at 90 degrees above your paper, the paper will not fly away.

Stampin' Up!

I repeated the process with Gold Encore ink.

And again with Bashful Blue Craft ink.

Stampin' Up!

Last, I quickly placed my image that was inked up with gold ink onto the still hot embossed circle.

I left it there for several minutes until the embossing powder cooled off.  Remove the stamp.

Shades of Spring Butterflies

Stampin' Up! Beautiful Wings

I don’t know about you but I am so ready for Spring!

While it isn’t spring outside yet, this card is a little bit of spring indoors. Here, I used the Shades of Spring designer series paper and the Beautiful Wings embosslit die to create this pretty card. Can you see the textured impressions on the butterflies? They are sooo pretty!

And so easy to make with the new Beautiful Wings embosslit die. As you can see later in this post, this die creates multiple butteflies perfect for using on cards and pages. The butterflies can even be layered together for a different fun look.

I added Certainly Celery satin ribbon and a greeting from the Well Scripted stamp set to finish the card.

This stamp set is perfect for making lots of any occasion cards.  I recommend that when you sit down to stamp that you make cards in multiple of 4. And when you use a greeting set like Well Scripted, you can add the greeting only as you need a card. If you have a few of these cards all ready to go, you can stamp, punch and adhere the greeting just before you give the card to a friend.  I try to always have a few cards ready to give that can be adapted for any occasion.

Faux Tin Ceiling Technique

Stampin' Up! Finial Press

If I had known how simple this technique is I would have tried it so much sooner. How simple is it? Very!

I cut a piece of aluminum foil to the size I needed for the cardfront with my paper cutter. Then I ran the foil topped with the Whisper White cardstock through my Big Shot with the Finial Press embossing folder. And, that is it!  Faux tin ceiling technique.

I purchased some Reynolds Heavy Duty Aluminum Foil for this card but it seemed to be the same thickness as the Shoppers Drug Mart "regular" aluminum foil I already had in my pantry. So, try it with whatever tin foil you currently own.

To finish, I added layered ribbons and a punched greeting. The "Happy Birthday" is from the Vintage Labels set, a free set for Sale-A-Bration. Yes, free!

A Vintage Vogue Friend

Stampin' Up! Vintage Vogue

Vintage Vogue. Doesn’t the name say it all?

This oh, so lovely set is just right for making "take it up a notch" cards quickly. I usually shy away from cards where alot of cutting out of images is required. These flowers were really forgiving though and although I did oops, I just covered it up with another flower. Shh! Don’t tell.

I love all of the stamps in this set and I love the matching wheel. See them both on page 26 – 27 of the Occasions Mini catalogue. You gotta get this set!

And if you want more ideas, Register today for my Vintage Vogue class on February 24th and make 5 projects using this elegant stamp set.
