Fun with the Corduroy Buttons

Stampin Up Canada

Tomorrow is your last chance to order many of the stamp sets and products in the Occasions Mini Catalogue.

This catalogue expires tomorrow although some items will carryover. Check the list below for those items.

Take a last look at the mini catalogue and make sure the items on your wish list have been purchased. If not, contact me to place your order today.

My card today is very simple. I stamped the greeting from Fundamental Phrases in Chocolate Chip ink and then added buttons. I layered a corduroy button onto a large clear button and adhered them to the card with dimensionals. Talk about easy cardmaking!

One Card, Two Ways – Flores Suaves

Stampin Up Flores Suaves

Flores Suaves! You may not recognize this set as it is from the Stampin’ Up! Spanish catalogue,Celebrando Creatividad. The good news is that as Canadians we can order this stamp set as well as the other products in this catalogue. Prices may vary.

Flores Suaves is a set of 4, #112913, $24.95 and it just calls out for a collage type of card or background .The set includes a flower, butterfly, bee and script background. I love this set!  It reminds me of an old favourtie stamp set, Botanicals, that Stampin’ Up! retired a few years ago. This set is a wonderful replacement.

Happy stamping!

Stampin Up Flores Suaves

This first card uses Kraft, Soft Suede and Not Quite Navy. I stamped the background with VersaMark, Soft Suede and Not Quite Navy and then used a dauber to colour in the images a bit. Over the background, I sprayed the Log Cabin Smooch Spritz Spray.  Next, I stamped the flower in Soft Suede and coloured it in with inks. I distressed the edges with the Cutter Kit before layering onto the other cardstocks. Finally, I added the Elementary Ribbon Originals in Not Quite Navy and a Kraft Corduroy Button tied on with Linen Thread.  I think this is my favourite of the two cards.

Stamps:  Flores Suaves

Ink:  Not Quite Navy, Soft Suede, VersaMark

Paper: Not Quite Navy, Soft Suede, Kraft

Other: Kraft Corduroy Buttons, Elementary Ribbon Originals, Linen thread, Cutter Kit, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Sponge Daubers, Log Cabin Smooch Spritz Spray

This card is much simpler. I stamped with Basic Black ink on Whisper White cardstock and introduced the Melon Mambo only in the cardstock. I punched a 1" circle into the flower on the Whisper white cardstock and lined up a second image on Melon Mmabo cardstock right behind it. The frame was created with the 1" and 1-1/4" circle punches. Basic Black satin ribbon is the finishing touch.

Stamps:  Flores Suaves

Ink:  Basic Black

Paper: Melon Mambo, Basic Black, Whisper White

Punches:  1" circle. 1-1/4" Circle

Other: Basic Black Satin Ribbon

Technique Tuesday – Salt Background

Stampin Up A Little Bit of Magic

Time for another Technique Tuesday! Today’s card features the Salt Background which uses an item I bet most, if not all, of us have at home. Different types of salt create different looks – try table salt, coarse salt, sea salt, etc.

My card uses coarse canning salt although I made a similar card with table salt and it looks really neat as well.

After a lot of experimentation (and drinking a lot of water because I had salt everywhere!), I have discovered that the secret is to keep a pretty light hand with the salt. My first umpteen attempts used way too much salt and the individual grains didn’t have opportunity to spread out.

This card also features a Summer Mini catalogue sneak peek. This stamp set is called A Little Bit of Magic and is a set of 4. It includes a second little fairy girl holding a flower and a greeting that says"there’s a bit of magic in everything – Lou Reed". Don’t you love that sentiment? Finally, there is small stamp with a bunch of stars on it that looks great stamped over the greeting in a lighter colour of ink.  The set is $19.95 clear and $24.95 wood.  What a fun set!

Scroll down to see a full list of instructions and please let me know if you have any questions on this technique.

To finish the card, I added two different widths of ribbon one on top of the other down the side and adhered three small buttons with paper thread.  A very simple card that would be great for a girls birthday card or an invitation.  Hope you like it.

Apply Classic re-inks to glossy cardstock with an aqua painter. If you want, you can stamp and/or heat emboss the cardstock before adding the inks.

Stampin Up CanadaDrop salt randomly over the card and allow to dry. Once the salt has been on the paper for a few minutes, you can speed the drying time with a heat tool or blow dryer. Once dry, brush off the salt.

Blissful Bride Shower Card

Stampin Up Blissful Bride Stamp Set

This is a card I made for a shower I attended recently.

It uses a new stamp set from the Summer Mini catalogue called Blissful Bride. This is a great set for any weddings and bridal showers you may be attending this year. In addition to the dress and the "something old, something new …" greeting, the set also has a cake, a bouquet and 3 other greetings.

I stamped and embossed the dress in white and then used an aqua painter to colour the flowers on the dress with Bashful Blue ink. Next, I stamped the greeting onto a length of Whisper White cardstock masking a bit of the greeting so it would fit the punch. Since I wanted the piece of cardstock to be a bit longer than what the tag punch normally is, see the photo below showing how I extended the length of the cardstock.

After adding a layer of Bashful Blue cardstock and a layer of Whisper White cardstock that I ran through the Big Shot with the Perfect Details texturz plate, I embellished the card with ribbon and a button also in Bashful Blue to tie it all together.

This card was really tough to photograph because there is so much white but trust me, it is really pretty in person.

If you haven’t already requested your copy of the Summer Mini catalogue, contact me today. The catalogues should be arriving in mailboxes this week.

Simple Saturday – Great Friend

Stampin Up Great Friend

This Simple Saturday card took only a few minutes to make.

I layered the green patterned paper from the Cottage Wall designer series paper onto Rich Razzleberry cardstock using the ticket corner punch in the left two corners. I then added two Old Olive brads in those corners. Since I didn’t want the prongs to show inside the card, I cut them off and adhered the brads with mini glue dots.

Next, I scallop edge punched the Old Olive and Orchid Opulence layers and adhered them over the Cottage Wall dsp. After creating the tag with the Matchbox die and the Big Shot machine, I stamped the frame and greeting from the Great Friends stamp set in Rich Razzleberry ink. To finish the card, I added Rich Razzleberry ribbon to the tag and adhered it to the card with dimensionals.

Using this same template, it’s easy to create lots of simple cards.

One Card, Two Ways – Summer Mini Sneak Peek

Stampin Up Canada

Stampin’ Up! is my full time career. And that means that stamping is part of my job almost every day. Maybe I need cards for a class or I have an order for wedding invitations. I actually schedule time to stamp and create onto my calendar and my to do list.

And then there are days I stamp just for fun. Today’s cards didn’t "need" to be made. These cards were made simply because I enjoy stamping as a hobby as well as a job. How lucky am I?!  Very. I really enjoyed making these cards. If you enjoy seeing them here, leave me a comment.

Both of these cards were made using sets from the Summer Mini catalogue that will be effective on May 1, 2010.  Click Here to request your copy of the Summer Mini catalogue. All copies should be received next week.

Today’s post is just a little tease of some of the great stamp sets and products that will be available. These two stamps are my current favourites but a girl can change her mind. And I do. Often. Did you notice the new shimmery mist on the brown and turquoise card?

Stampin' Up! Watercolor Trio

For this first card, I used the Watercolor Trio stamp set and inks in Tempting Turquoise, Certainly Celery and Chocolate Chip. To get the watercolor look, I inked  up the stamps with a classic ink pad and then misted the stamp before applying it to watercolor paper. To finish, I sprayed the paper with Log Cabin Smooch Spritz Spray. Although Smooch Spritz Spray is a tongue twister you may not want to say too often, you will love the shimmery effect of the spray. And it is available in four colours. And you will want all of them!

Stamps:  Watercolor Trio

Ink:  Tempting Turquoise, Certainly Celery, Chocolate Chip

Paper: Watercolor Paper, Tempting Turquoise, Certainly Celery, Chocolate Chip, Kraft

Punches: 3/16" Corner Rounder, Scallop Edge

Other: Chocolate Chip 5/8" Grosgrain Ribbon, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Log Cabin Smooch Spritz Spray

Stampin' Up! Elements of Style.

This second card is simpler than the first but also more elegant. I used only Basic Black ink on Whisper White cardstock and added Bravo Burgundy as an accent colour. In addition to the Bravo Burgundy cardstock, I added grosgrain ribbon in the same colour.

Stamps:  Elements of Style

Ink:  Basic Black

Paper: Bravo Burgundy, Basic Black, Whisper White

Punches:  3/16" Corner Rounder, Scallop Edge

Other: Bravo Burgundy 5/8" Grosgrain Ribbon, Stampin’ Dimensionals

An Oh, So Cute Purse Card

Stampin Up Canada

Isn’t this purse card adorable? Whether you make them as birthday cards, party favours, bachelorette party gifts or as a gift card holder, everyone will go crazy for this little purse!

I went girly for this purse card and choose Pretty in Pink satin ribbon and Pretty in Pink papers from the Sweet Pea designer series paper stack – 48 double sided sheets for $32.95 – page 33 of the Occasions Mini catalogue.

Cut the cardstock to 5” x 11”. Score at 3-1/2”, 4-1/2”, 5”, 8-1/2” and 9”.

The large white grommet will be inserted through a 1/2" circle on the front flap. Since the 1/2" circle punch won’t go through three layers at once, I punched the circle into the middle of the black cardstock first. Next, I lined up the piece of 1-3/4" x 4-3/4" Whisper White cardstock and punched again. Finally, I lined up a piece of designer series paper 1-1/2" x 4-1/2" and punched a final time. Insert the grommet and bend back the prongs.

The pieces of paper on the bottom of the purse measure 4-3/4" x 3-1/4" for the Whisper white cardstock and 4-1/2" x 3" for the Sweet Pea paper. Carefully close the purse aligning the top and bottom flaps. Make a mark through the grommet showing where to insert the ribbon. Punch holes for the ribbon and tie it in a knot. To close the purse, you will pull the ribbon through the grommet.

With sticky strip at the ends, add a handle of cardstock measuring ½” x 6”. The Pretty in Pink cardstock inside the purse card is 4-3/4" x 3-1/4" and the Whisper White is 4-1/2" x 3". Stamp to finish.

Have fun making these little purses and remember there are only 10 days left to shop from the Occasions Mini catalogue!
