Simple Saturday – Nature Walk Butterfly

Nature Walk Stamp Set Card

This masculine card featuring the butterfly from the Nature Walk stamp set came together really quickly.

I stamped the butterfly onto Whisper White cardstock with Old Olive ink and then layered the stamped image onto Old Olive cardstock. I added a Mini Library Clip with a knot made from the narrow Whisper White Taffeta ribbon and a small strip of Old Olive cardstock.

The card itself is layers of Whisper White and Old Olive cardstocks with Old Olive designs from the Botanical Gazette and Brights Patterns Designer Series Paper. Don’t you love the way the butterfly image from Nature Walk also appears in the Botanical Gazette paper?

Clean & Simple Baby Blossom Card

Baby Blossom Stamp Set

I love using designer series paper on my cards especially when the paper is as pretty and delicate as the Springtime Vintage designer series paper. All of these patterns are great for adding to cards, scrapbook pages and other projects.

This clean and simple card was so easy to make as the designer paper fills up alot of the white space. After layering my Baja Breeze and Whisper White cardstocks and adding the Springtime Vintage paper, all I needed to do was a greeting and some other accents including Baja Breeze Seam Binding and an Adornment. I stamped the leaves from the Baby Blossoms stamp set in Pear Pizzazz ink and added the cut out leaves behind the Baja Breeze Adornment wiht a mini glue dot.

One of my favourite stamps sets in the Occasions Mini catalogue is Say It Simply (122324). Priced at only $9.95 this stamp set works with so many cards, See it on the bottom of page 41 of the mini catalogue.

This would be a great make ahead card. Assemble the card itself and then you can stamp and punch a bunch of assorted greetings in Baja Breeze ink. As you need a card you can add the greeting, the pre-made adornment piece and head out the door.

I found this stamp set really easy to use. I love the images – "H" hope, the wordsir, a butterfly and a baroque image – and their sizing is just right for card and other projects.

First, I made the tag using the Two Tags bigz die and Finial Press embossing folder for the Big Shot die-cutting machine. I rubbed my Crumb Cake ink pad over the top of the tag to accent the raised images.

Next, I stamped the H hope image and punched it out with the 1-1/4" square punch before layering it onto a Pretty in Pink cardstock punched Scallop Square. The butterfly was stamped in Pretty in Pink ink onto another piece of Very Vanilla cardstock and the words were stamped on top with Crumb Cake ink.

Don’t you love this combination of words? Definitely the strength part of this stamp set. I also stamped the baroque image in Crumb Cake ink and punched it with the smallest oval. I sponged Pretty in Pink ink around the edges of this piece.

To assemble the tag, I added Very Vanilla seam binding to the top and tied it with linen thread. I used a Vintage Trinkets safety pin to add the oval. I adhered the butterfly/words stamped piece to the tag and then added the H hope stamped piece with dimensionals. The last embellishment was a Vintage Trinket brad with a center Basic Pearl and folded Chantilly Crochet Trim.

I plan to use this Strength & Hope tag as a bookmark but it could be easily added to a card as well.

How to Color the Rosettes by Stampin’ Up!

Curly Cute Stamp set with Vanilla Rosetted from Stampin' Up! Canada

As I was making this card with the new Rosettes from the Occasions Mini catalogue, I really, really wanted to use Rosettes that would match my card instead of the vanilla colour that they are in the package. So, I decided to try and dye the Rosettes.

First, I placed a few drops of ink refill into a little bit of water and then soaked the Rosette in the ink and water mixture. This worked well but the colour wasn’t as intense as I wanted.

Next, I dipped the Rosette quickly into a dish of water and removed it. Placing the Rosette on my table, I added a few drops of re-inker directly to the rosette and the colour quickly spread out. I decided I liked this way of colouring the flowers better and the colour was a better match to the cardstock.

So, I let the Rosettes dry and made this card.

I stamped a greeting from the Curly Cute stamp set in Whisper White Craft ink onto the Cherry Cobbler card. Then, I layered Baja Breeze cardstock that had been embossed with the Elegant Lines embossing folder for the Big Shot onto Pear Pizzazz cardstock with a punched Scallop Trim Border. After attaching a length of Pear Pizzazz Seam Binding with a bow, I added Pear Pizzazz Cardstock cut with the Little Leaves Sizzlit. Finally, the coloured Rosettes were added with mini glue dots.

April Classes and Events

Dreaming About Rubber Stamps

My April 2011 schedule of classes and events is available.

Please click here for all the details.

My kids had Teachers Convention last week so I took a couple of days away from the office and now I am in catch up mode. I will be posting more samples and videos starting tomorrow.

I thought the kids were kept busy on their days off school. We went to the mall, saw a movie, went out to eat and more. But when I saw the following picture on my camera I realized that the kids may have had more free time than I realized.

Sophie in a Shirt

This is Sophie, our 2 year old mini Schnauzer.

She is a my stamping buddy when I am working and she loves grapefruit.

Simple Saturday with Free Sale A Bration Sets

Sweet Summer and So Happy For You

I have to admit to looking forward to Simple Saturdays. My challenge to myself is to create a card in 5-10 minutes. That means the card needs to be quick and simple. This card was probably closer to the 5 minute mark but I have to admit that I was so into creating it that I forgot to time myself.

For this Simple Saturday card, I used the 1-3/8" circle punch to create circles from various patterns in the Lap of Luxury designer series paper. On the almost solid Pretty in Pink paper, I stamped an image from the Sweet Summer stamp set in Basic Gray ink. To the image, I added three small Basic Rhinestones for a little bling. I stamped a greeting from the So Happy for You stamp set at the bottom of the card to finish it.

Both the Sweet Summer and So Happy For You stamp sets are free during Sale A Bration this month.

Don’t miss out on receiving your free stampset with a $60 order! Click here to see the Sale A Bration catalogue and place your order today by contacting me or ordering online.

Watercolor Wash Technique with the Growing Green Stamp Set

Watercolr Wash Technique with the Growing Green Stamp Set

For my cards today I revisited an old technique. Although I have used the Watercolor Wash technique many times it never fails to amaze me how pretty this technique is for card making.

Scroll down to the end of the post for step by step instructions and photos.

Card #1 Growing Green Watercolor Wash

When I coloured the flowers some were lighter in colour than others so I decided to make two different cards. This first one features Rose Red.

Stamps: Growing Green (Wood 118758, Clear 120624)

Inks: Whisper White Craft (101731), Pretty in Pink Ink Refill (102295), Rose Red Ink Refill (102109), Rich Razzleberry Ink Refill (115664)

Paper: Subtles Textured Cardstock (121075), Shimmery White (101910)

Big Shot: Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder (117335), Little Leaves (114511)

Punches: Scallop Trim Border (118402)

Other: Rose Red Seam Binding (121884) , White Embossing Powder (109132), Heat Tool (100005), Powder Pals (102197), Aqua Painter (103954)

Card #2 Growing Green Watercolor Wash

For this card, I used the darker flowers with Rich Razzleberry textured cardstock and ribbon.

Stamps: Growing Green (Wood 118758, Clear 120624)

Inks: Whisper White Craft (101731), Pretty in Pink Ink Refill (102295), Rose Red Ink Refill (102109), Rich Razzleberry Ink Refill (115664)

Paper: Brights Textured Cardstock (121077), Shimmery White (101910)

Big Shot: Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder (117335), Little Leaves (114511)

Punches: Scallop Trim Border (118402)

Other: Rich Razzleberry 5/8" Grosgrain Ribbon (119957) , White Embossing Powder (109132), Heat Tool (100005), Powder Pals (102197), Aqua Painter (103954

Heat Embossed image with white embossing powder

Heat emboss the flower from the Growing Green stamp set onto Shimmery White cardstock with Whisper White craft ink (or VersaMark) and white embossing powder.

Spritz stamped images with water

Spritz embossed cardstock generously with water. You should see puddles of water on the paper.

Ink refills on clear block

Choose three or four ink refill colours. I used Pretty in Pink, Rose Red and Rich Razzleberry. Place a few drops or each colour onto a clear block or other surface and pick up the colour with an Aqua Painter

Apply ink to image

Use the Aqua Painter to add the first colour to the paper.

All three colors of ink applied

Add the other colours to the stamped images and allow to dry. A Heat Tool can be used to speed up the drying time.

That’s it!

Bring on the Cake Card in Rose Red

Published by under Card Samples

Bring on the Cake Card

If you remember from yesterday’s post, I was trying to create card that I could picture in my mind but just could not translate onto paper. Although the card turned out okay, it just wasn’t what I had been planning.

Today’s card is my second attempt. And it is definitely more what I had planned and didn’t take long at all to stamp probably because I wasn’t so frustrated. I changed a couple of things – first, I decided to use my favourite Stampin’ Up! colour – Rose Red because it never lets me down and second I decided to use the Framed Tulip embossing folder so that I was working with less surface for stamping. And both of these changes really helped me create.

After stamping the greeting, I created flowers with the Boho Blossom punch. Then, I added a Vintage Trinket button brad to the center of each flower and topped the brad with a Basic Pearl. I love these little trinkets and think they look great topped with the pearl. Have you ordered your trinkets yet?
