Fancy Fold Card: Is this fold “right”?

Fancy Fold Card Closed

This card had me really turned around!

I had a lot of fun making this card but I had to keep asking myself if I was holding the card upside down. Unlike every other card I have every made that has the fold on the left or the top, this card has the fold on the right. Really!

And it just didn’t feel like I was doing it "right" as I was making the card but as you can see, it did turn out as it was supposed to. Thanks to Elizabeth Freiter, a fellow Dreaming About Rubber Stamps Team member for showing me her card using this same Fancy Fold technique and inspiring me to make my own.

Once I got used to the fold on the "wrong" side, this card was quick to make.  I folded a piece of 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" Very Vanilla cardstock in half as usual. Then holding the fold on the right, I cut 1-1/2" from the left hand side of the top piece of the card.

Next, I scored a 3-1/4" x 4" piece of Basic Black cardstock at 3/4" on the long side.

After layering Riding Hood Red cardstock and Love Letter designer series paper to the front of the card, I added a length of Very Vanilla Seam Binding complete with a knot onto the Basic Black cardstock.

I adhered the Basic Black cardstock to the left hand side of the card that is stationary making sure the the flap would open.

Fancy Fold Card Open

Inside the card I stamped "Birthday Wishes" from the Bring On the Cake stamp set in Riding Hood Red ink. I thought the the elegance of this scripted greeting matched the rest of the card nicely.

So, what do you think? Did I do it "right"? Please leave me a comment and let me know if you like this card. Thanks!

What A Scoop! A Petal Cone Birthday Surprise

Petal Cone Bigz Die Birthday Card

I love, love, love the versatility of the new Petal Cone Bigz Die from Stampin’ Up! . You can see it on page 15 of the new Occasions Mini. Click here to see all the current catalogues.

Rather than create a cone shape, I assembled the Petal Cone pieces and left them flat. I snipped off the half circle on the left and added the ice cream scoops to the right.

I punched out a couple of red Glimmer Paper pieces to match the Real Red ribbon – a 3/4" circle for the cherry and an oval to layer behind the banner for the greeting. I also made the cherry stem using the same oval punch by punching twice very close together.

Wouldn’t this make a great party invitation?

This is a "creative" week for me. That means lots of stamping! Can you believe I get paid to do this?

I am working on videos and projects for my stamp club, my virtual online club, Rubber Stampers Club and for my blog.

Did you know that my videos are available as podcasts so you can watch on the go. Search "dreaming about rubber stamps" at the iTunes store or click here and select the blue "view in itunes" button to subscribe to my free videos today!

Create A Cupcake Birthday Insert

On the pull out insert, I stamped a greeting from the Create A Cupcake stamp set in Real Red ink.

You could also add a personal message here as well as sign the card.

Springtime Vintage Petal Cone

Published by under 3D Samples

Big Shot Petal Cone in Springtime Vintage Paper

If you only took a quick look at the Petal Cone Die in the Occasions Mini catalogue, or didn’t even notice it all, go take another look. This Bigz die for the Big Shot Machine is so cute!

I was surprised how easy these were to make and the die even includes the scallop petals and the banner.

I dressed the Petal Cone die up a bit with a length of Very Vanilla Seam Binding that I gathered a little bit.

The only other embellishment is the Rosette with a pearl center

Whether you leave this Petal Cone die open of close the top for a different look and purpose, you will have fun creating with this die.

Jolly Holiday Gift Card Holder

Stampin Up Canada Jolly Holiday Gift Card Holder

As the kids are home from school next week, I am trying to get my Christmas shopping done this week.  And it is actually going pretty well after a rough start yesterday. I went out early yesterday morning armed with my list. And at the first three stores I bought nothing! None of the three had a single item on my list or anything I wanted instead. Fortunately, the day got much better after stopping at the fourth store and I am close to finished now.

In my family, only the kids get gifts which is okay since they are usually more fun to shop for anyways. My littlest nieces and nephews are getting Zhu Zhu pets. Aren’t these all the rage right now? I lucked out and found a store that had just received a new shipment so there were lots of pets to choose from.

And the bigger kids are getting gift cards with a small gift.

Today’s project is one of the gift card holders I designed for the teens. Please leave a comment and let me know if you like it.

Keep reading for the step by step directions.

Frosty the Snowman Tic Tac Holder

Snowman Kisses with Stampin Up Canada Products

Need a small gift for co-workers or for the kids to hand out at school? Snowman Kisses to the rescue!

For these cute little projects, I used the 100 mint size of Tic Tacs that I purchased at Sobeys.

I cut the Real Red cardstock to 5-1/4” x 3-1/2” and scored it in 2-1/8” from each side. I punched a 1” circle on Whisper White cardstock and framed the punched circle with a 1-3/8” circle punch and punched again.

Next, I adhered the circle to Baja Breeze cardstock and punched a 1” circle again in the same place. After adhering the Baja Breeze piece to the Real Red cardstock I punched the 1” circle a third time so the Tic Tacs will be visible.

To make sure the Tic Tacs stay in place, I used Sticky Strip to hold them inside the back cover.

A fun project to make and to give! Please let me know if you have any questions on these Frosty Tic Tac holders or any of my other cards or projects. I can be reached at darlene@dreamingaboutrubberstamps.com. Thanks!

Snowman Kisses Inside - Stampin Up Canada

I adhered the Real Red grosgrain ribbon under the Baja Breeze panel and wrapped it around the back so I could tie it on the side with a bow.

Snowman Kisses Poem - Stampin Up Canada

The Snowman kisses verse inside the Tic Tac holder reads:

He’s cute, cuddly, and full of good wishes

He wants to give you these snowman kisses!

I printed the poem onto Whisper White cardstock with my printer and then punched it out with the XL Oval punch.

Gifted Mini Lunch Sack

Stampin Up Canada Gifted Lunch Sack

Need a simple gift packaging idea? I love these little mini lunch sacks.  Sized at 3-1/2" x 6-5/8" x 2-1/4" the mini lunch sacks are just right for small gifts and candy and they are just the right size for easy decorating.

Here, I used the Candy Cane Christmas Specialty Designer Series Paper with Baja Breeze and Whisper White cardstocks. First, I cut out scallop strips of the three papers with the Tasteful Trim XL die seen on page 17 of the Holiday Mini Catalogue. I adhered these strips to the front of the lunch sack slightly overlapping each one.

After stamping the to/from Noel Tag from the Gifted stamp set in Baja Breeze ink, I punched it out with the 1-3/8" circle punch.  I layered it onto a 2" circle of Candy Cane Christmas paper made using the Circles #2 Big Shot die and then added a final layer of Baja Breeze cardstock punched with the 2-3/8" scallop circle.

The final touch was a small bow of Whisper White taffeta ribbon at the top.

This is a really easy project if you need a package for little gifts and token. And the Gift Packaging Bundle is on sale for 20% off right now.

Scallop Envelope Box and Gift Cards

Stampin Up Canada Big Shot Scallop Envelope

This video tutorial shows you how to turn the Scallop Envelope Bigz die for the Big Shot die-cutting machine into a cute box that holds three or four 3×3 gift cards.

By cutting out two Cherry Cobbler scallop envelopes, trimming and placing them back to back a wide slot is made to hold the gift cards. The box is decorated in a matching Cherry Cobbler patterned paper from the Jolly Holiday designer series paper package.

The 3×3 gift cards fit perfectly. The cards are embossed witht the Petal-a-Plenty embossing folder for the Big Shot before a "Merry Christmas" greeting from the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set was added in Cherry Cobbler ink.

Fang-tastic Halloween Treat Bag

Stampin up Fang-tastic stamp set

Isn’t this little Halloween Treat Bag cute?

I used the Spider Web embossing folder on a Mini Lunch Sack. These "just right" sized bags can be seen on page 13 of the Holiday Mini catalogue. My first try at embossing them was not so good but you can learn from my mistakes. A couple of tips: remove the bottom liner from inside the bag and fold the bottom of the bag down so the embossing folder can fit the entire bag. Also, if the sandwich is to tight, the bags can tear so do not use a shim and you may want to even step down a tab.

I stamped the adorable witch from the Fang-tastic stamp set in Basic Black ink and coloured her with Rich Razzleberry, Pumpkin Pie and Old Olive inks using a Blender Pen.  Once the witch was finished, I punched her out with the 2-1/2" circle punch.

Next, I stamped and punched the greeting and added a Glimmer Brad in Pumpkin Pie

The final touches were Rich Razzleberry grosgrain ribbon and a strip of Wicked Fun designer series paper on the bag.

Scroll down to see how I made a closure for the bag using the oval greeting piece.

A Candy Cane Christmas Candy Wrapper

Stampin Up Canada Candy Wrapper

It’s official! I love this little Candy Wrapper.

I made this Candy Cane Christmas wrapper as one of four projects for my team meeting tonight. And it is definitely the project that was easiest to create.

I knew as soon as I opened the Candy Cane Christmas specialty designer series paper exactly what colours I would use for this candy wrapper. What makes this paper a specialty paper package is the red glitter on some of the patterns. Can you see it?

I created the candy wrapper from Baja Breeze cardstock another one of the colours included on the Candy Cane Christmas paper. The snowflake was made using the Northern Frost decorative strip for the Big Shot from Blushing Bride paper. And, of course, I had to add a Real Red Glimmer Brad to the center of the snowflake to match the glitter on the paper.

While pink snowflakes are not natural, pink is one of the popular colours for Christmas this year. And on this project it really works.

After making a couple of the wrappers, I have figured out how to make the assembly easier. Here are three tips: with a bone folder or your fingers, crease all of the score lines to make assembly faster, apply sticky strip from side to side at the end of the wrapper skipping over the cut outs, press in and twist the ends with four fingers, one in each space to close.

I plan to use this die year round – New Years, Valentines, Easter, etc. What a great investment.

Want to know more about joining my team so you can attend meetings and make cards and projects like this one?

Attend my business opportunity night on Tuesday, September 28th at 7 pm at the Chateau Nova Hotel (Kingsway (118) Ave and 119 st) Please RSVP.

Holiday Mini Sneak Peek – Spider Web Candy Wrapper

Stampin Up Holiday Mini Big Shot

The Candy Wrapper is a new Bigz die for the Big Shot featured in Stampin’ Up! Holiday Mini catalogue that will be effective September 1st.

To make this candy wrapper, I cut it out with the Big Shot and used a bone folder to score the lines.  Then I ran the candy wrapper through a second time with the new Spider  Web embossing folder. This is such a neat design!

A bit of Pumpkin Pie grosgrain ribbon with new black Raven Lace Trim on the ends and a tag that uses the new Decorative Label punch and Blakc Jewels and I was finished. A really neat idea for Halloween!

Technique Tuesday – Shabby Chic Ribbon Flowers

Stampin Up So Many Thanks

Just this morning, I read an article stating that Ribbon Flowers are going to be a big trend in scrapboooking and rubber stamping this year.

And this video shows you how to make your own! (If you received this message by e-mail or in a blog reader, you may need to visit my blog to see the link.)

Scroll down to watch the video.

This box was made using the Fancy Favor die for the Big Shot. After cutting out the box from 12×12 Basic Black cardstock, I embossed it using the Square Lattice embossing folder also for the Big Shot. I did one section at a time lining up the folder so its outer edge fit into the side pleats of the Fancy Favor box.

Next, I wrapped a length of the Basic Black 1-1/4" striped grosgrain ribbon around the bottom of the box and used a knot of Real Red satin ribbon to hold it in place.

The greeting piece was stamped with Basic Black ink onto Whisper White cardstock using the So Many Thanks a la carte stamp ($9.95, #120173,page 18). This stamped piece was then layered onto a larger piece of Basic Black cardstock and a second larger piece of Real Red cardstock. I added small rhinestones over the row of hearts on the stamped image to tie into the rhinestones on the ribbon flower.

Finally I added a Ribbon Flower that was made with a 1-1/4" circle of cardstock. See the video below for the Ribbon Flower instructions.

Satin Ribbon Flowers

For the flower on the left, I used my heat tool to gently curl the ribbon before assembling the flower.

On the flower on the right, the ribbon was not heated.

Island Oasis Mini Album

Island Oasis Mini Album CLosed

Don’t you just think warm weather and lots of tropical fun when you see this Island Oasis designer series paper from the Summer Mini catalogue?

Here I used the Island Oasis paper with the coordinating stamp set, Tropical Party, to make a mini album.  This album is so simple to create.

I ran a square of the Island Oasis designer series paper through my Big Shot with the Petal Card die.  Next, I cut a piece of cardstock to 2-1/2" x 10" and scored at 2-1/2", 5" and 7-1/2" to make the foldout page inside the album.

Lastly, I cut a strip of Old Olive cardstock 3/4" x 7-1/4" to make the belly band closure.

Island Oasis Mini Album OPen

This is the album open to the front page of the foldout cardstock piece. I stamped the front panel with Tempting Turquoise and Pumpkin Pie flowers from the Tropical Party stamp set.

This picture shows the inside page extendedI cut squares of designer paper to 2-1/4" x 2-1/4" and adhered them to the foldout page between the score lines. Then I added a stamped and punched circle and square as embellishments.
