Simple Saturday – Nature Walk Butterfly

Nature Walk Stamp Set Card

This masculine card featuring the butterfly from the Nature Walk stamp set came together really quickly.

I stamped the butterfly onto Whisper White cardstock with Old Olive ink and then layered the stamped image onto Old Olive cardstock. I added a Mini Library Clip with a knot made from the narrow Whisper White Taffeta ribbon and a small strip of Old Olive cardstock.

The card itself is layers of Whisper White and Old Olive cardstocks with Old Olive designs from the Botanical Gazette and Brights Patterns Designer Series Paper. Don’t you love the way the butterfly image from Nature Walk also appears in the Botanical Gazette paper?

Nature’s Nest

Stampin Up Natures Nest Stamp Set

With Father’s Day just around the corner, my stamping thoughts turned to a masculine card. One of my favourite stamp sets to use for "guy cards" is this one, Nature’s Nest. See another card I made with this same stamp set here

The colours I choose for this card are Soft Suede, Sahara Sand and Very Vanilla. I added a designer series paper from Travel Journal to add an additional Sahara Sand pattern.

The hardware is Antique Brass for both the Jumbo Eyelets and the Vintage Brads. The only other embellishment is the Soft Suede ribbon.

A quick and easy birthday or Father’s Day card for the men in your life.

Nature’s Nest Birthday Card

Stampin up natures nest

My "little" brother, Mark, had his birthday a couple of weeks ago and this is the card I made him.  Now, really, my brother is no longer little, he is the married father of 4 great kids but I always think of think of him as the fair-haired pest that drove me crazy. Does anyone else always remember their adult brothers first as little boys?

I knew I wanted to use my Nature’s Nest stamp set, - $30.95, #113826, page 111 - on this card but beyond that I wasn’t sure what my finished card would look like. And that is not really me. I usually have a direction in my head and follow it pretty closely when making cards. I actually played with a few of the stamps and a few different colours before I hit on this idea.

I stamped the turtle with VersaMark ink onto the dotted Old Olve pattern from the Tall Tales designer series paper and embossed with clear embossing powder. Then I used a sponge to add Soft Suede ink over the embossed turtle. I found the effect of swirling ink on with a sponge to be softer than using my brayer.

After allowing the ink to dry for a few minutes during which time it lightened up a bit, I used a tissue to remove the still wet ink from the turtles. This technique is called Emboss Resist. You can also try the technique with glossy paper, coloured embossing powder and/or a brayer to change up the look.

I added two layers of ribbon at the side of the card, layering Soft Suede over Old Olive before adding some More Mustard brads. I added a knot in Soft Suede after adhering the ribbons on the back of the card.

Stampin up modern label punch

I wanted to make a border around the Modern Label punch so I could add another More Mustard accent to my card. I punched two pieces of More Mustard cardstock and cut one in half along the length and one in half along the width.

Extreme Elements Tween Card

Stampin Up Canada

As the mother of an almost 12 year old boy, some of the most difficult cards I make are for birthday parties that he attends.

Now, when I say difficult, I don’t mean hard or time consuming, I mean that the cards need to pass the tweenage boy approval test. And that is not always easy to do!

But I am happy to announce that this card passed on the first try and apparently even "wow"ed the other kids at the party!

To make this card, I used Basic Black, Sahara Sand and Real Red inks and cardstock. I stamped the Extreme Elements stamp set - $35.95, set of 6, #11581, page 81 - randomly on Whisper White cardstock and embellished with brads and a greeting banner created from cardstock and adhered with dimensionals

Inside the card, I used the Look Here Big Shot die to create a holder for the gift card. This is such a great way to present gift cards and always gets alot of attention.

Simple Saturday – Friends 24-7

Stampin Up Canada Friends 24-7

I love the versatility of this stamp set, Friends 24-7.

Today’s card is a great "Thinking of You" card but with a different greeting could easily be a masculine birthday card. And it was quick and easy making it a perfect Simple Saturday card.

Autumn Days Punch Card

A so simple card using the new Autumn Days Stamp set and only two colours – Chocolate Chip and Kraft. Is Kraft really even a colour?

This card was inspired by a card I received in a swap from Tammy Allen. I love how easily this great masculine card was to make using the 1-3/8" square punch. The four punched squares fit onto a larger 3-1/2" square of Chocolate Chip.

One Card, Two Ways

At Kerry B’s workshop last week, we made 3 cards and had alot of fun. This Totally Tool card was one of the cards we made.

After stamping the image in Basic Brown and colouring with the markers, I layered the hammer onto Mellow Moss and Chocolate Chip and added some Vintage Brads. The base of the card is Always Artichoke and I used the To the Nines designer series paper with its rich chocolate and artichoke for the background. The final embellishment was double stitched chocolate ribbon wrapped around the card front.

A great manly card!

After the workshop, I had leftover pre-cut cardstock and decided to make another card using the same basic pieces.

For my second card, I used the stamp set Branch Out. Stamping onto Whisper White, I layered onto Mellow Moss and added a Jumbo Chocolate Chip brad to highlight the stamped image.

Sorry for the blurry image. I had given this card to my Dad on Fathers Day and quickly grabbed a photo after he opened it.

The To the Nines designer series paper will be in the new catalogue but the price is higher. Don’t forget to place your stock up and save orders

Place an order in June of $50 or more and I will pay the 10% shipping to help you stock up and save.

Animal Stories Pop – Up

At the last Dreaming About Rubber Stamps team meeting, Laura R demo’d a fun and simple pop-up card.

Here is my version. I couldn’t believe how quick this card was to make and yet it has a great surprise inside.

The stamp set I used is Animal Stories and the co-ordinating designer series paper, Tall Tales.  The colours in this paper are Chocolate Chip, So Saffron, Old Olive, Rose Red and Brilliant Blue.

If you want to make some fun cards using products from the new catalogue and are local to Edmonton, don’t forget to RSVP for my Open House. Come and go on July 14 from 3 pm to 8 pm.

This card uses the Word Window punch to create the pop-up tab. First, mark your punch with a sharpie marker at the half way point.

Fold the 4-1/4" x 11" cardstock in half. Push the punch all the way in, lining up the mark on the punch with the score line.

Punch again on the other side as pictured.

Pop-up the piece as shown and attach your image.

It’s that easy!

If you have any questions, leave a comment for me.

Branching Out for Father’s Day

This is one of the cards I made for Father’s Day. Can you believe it is the first time I have used Branch Out? I love this tree.

I stamped the image on 3-3/4" x 2-3/4" glossy cardstock. The tree is Basic Brown and the leaves Certainly Celery and Old Olive. I added a Real Red bird for some colour. The greeting is from And Many Mower.

And Many Mower will not be in the new catalogue so order it today and add it to your stamp collection.

And Many Mower, $37.95, item #113724
