Summer Mini Sneak Peek: Pretty Postage

Pretty Postage Card

More new stamp sets and accessories!

This card features another new Summer Mini 2011 Catalogue stamp set - Pretty Postage. This set of four images – a heart with 24-7, a floral (I think it’s actually a raspberry) with the word sweet, happy birthday with a tiered cake of candles and this thank! thanks! thanks! image.

Plus, a Postage Stamp Punch to match.

I made this card with the Beyond the Garden designer series paper I also used here and the new Tangerine Tango embossing powder and white Baker’s Twine. I love how the embossing powder makes the image "pop".

Summer Mini Sneak Peek: Flower Fest

Flower Fest Stamp Set

One of my favourite stamp sets in the past was the now retired Mixed Bouquet. I loved the modern flowers and the variety of shapes and sizes in that stamp set.

So, I was thrilled to see Flower Fest in the upcoming Summer Mini 2011 catalogue because it reminds me so much of my old favourite. And Flower Fest features a big improvement – the flowers in this set all fit one of Stampin’ Up!’s punches. Yeah!

I wanted to create a clean and simple card for an upcoming class so I decided to stamp the flowers in Poppy Parade ink and then punch them out with the 1-3/8" circle. I created a card of Crumb Cake cardstock with a layered Pear Pizzazz Top Note die.

I added layers of Poppy Parade and Whisper White cardstock with a polka dot patterned paper from the In Color Patterns Designer Series Paper Stack. This paper is so versatile that I leave it out on my desk because I reach for it so often. Check it out on top of page 175 of the Idea Book & Catalogue.

To finish the card, I added Poppy Parade 1/2" Stitched Ribbon and a greeting from another new stamp set, Happy Greetings.

Technique Tuesday – Faux Dominos

Stampin Up Elements of Style

This technique is a great way to to create the look of dominoes on your cards and projects. Actual dominoes are heavy to use and can be hard to find inexpensively but with the Faux Domino technique you can have the look without the effort.

See the step by step instructions below.

For this card, I paired Cherry Cobbler with Pink Pirouette. I like these two colours together. For more of a contrast, I added Basic Black brads and ribbon. After stamping the greeting, I punched it with the 1" circle punch and layered it onto a 1-1/4" punched circle of Basic Black cardstock.

To create a shiny finish, the dominoes can be emboss with clear embossing powder.

Smacking Acetate Technique

Stampin' Up! Elements of Style

If you want to create colorful backgrounds using a minimum of  supplies, this is the technique for you.

Follow the simple directions below to make your own Smacking Acetate backgrounds.

Caution: You may not be able to stop – wipe off your window sheets and try a new colour combination.

To make this card, I used Melon Mambo, Rich Razzleberry and Soft Suede markers. Once the background was dry, I stamped an image from Elements of Style in Rich Razzleberry ink on the background piece and the greeting onto Glossy White cardstock. To embellish the card, I added designer series paper from the Thoroughly Modern package and Vintage Brads and Jumbo Eyelets in Antique Brass.

Give this technique a try – I bet you’ll like it. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Smacking Acetate Supplies

You will need assorted  markers, a spray bottle, glossy white cardstock and two window sheets  of any thickness.

Smacking Acetate Technique

Scribble with the markers onto the window sheets. I like to use three colours of ink. Try not to overlap the inks so the markers do not become contaminated.

 Smacking Acetate Technique

Mist generously with water.  Place the second window sheet on top of the the first and blend colours together with your fingers or a brayer.

Smacking Acetate Technique

Place two pieces of glossy white cardstock back to back and sandwich between the window sheets. Work out any air bubbles.

Mostly Vintage Smooch

Stampin Up Mostly Vintage Stencil

I love the cards created using the Mostly Vintage stencil set. And it is so easy!

Sinply place the stencil on top of the cardstock and then spray with the Smooch Spritz. I let it sit for a moment and then remove the stencil and let the card dry.

To complete the card, I added a large halfback pearl from the Prettied Kit in the center and a length of Bashful Blue satin ribbon along the side. The greeting is from the Elements of Style stamp set and was stamped with Sahara Sand ink.

To gather the ribbon, place a length of Sticky Strip down the back and then pinch it in equal sections before adhering to the card.

Whether you use the stencils to make cards, decorate a scrapbook page, stencil your own gift bags or make you own gifts like tiles and mirrors, you will get alot of use from this stencil set.

And the price is right at only $12.95.

Presto Patterns Specialty Paper

Stampin' Up! Canada

It’s Magic!

These cool new Presto Patterns Specialty Designer Series Papers from Stampin’ Up! are white with a glossy white design on them. Each package has 12 papers – 2 each of 6 designs and the papers are a heavy cover-weight.  You can use them as they are or you can colour them and let the design show through. That’s the magic part!

Here I used a sponge inked up with Regal Rose to colour the paper. You can also colour them with Smooch Spritz or use a brayer or aqua painter with your inks.

Aren’t these papers fun? I remember having a similar product as a kid but these designs are so elegant that I remember I’m all grown up.

To complete this card, I stamped one of the greetings from the Favorite Thoughts stamp set and added three bitty buttons in various shapes underneath the ribbon. To make the bitty buttons stand out a bit, I punched Rose red cardstock in the corresponding shapes to go underneath. I added faux thread to each button with the white gel pen to finish.

One Card, Two Ways – Watercolor Trio

Stampin' Up Canada Watercolor Trio

These two cards feature the same layout, same stamps and same accessories. The difference is in the colours of ink and cardstock used on each.

I’m always surprised by how a simple alteration to a card can create a completely different looking card. I think the night of navy card is more elegant yet the two are almost identical.

I stamped a Whisper White piece of cardstock with the Watercolor Trio images in various colours and included generational stamping. Then, I punched the cardstock with the 1-1/4" square.  If you have too much white on one of the squares, add a butterfly stamped in a light ink colour.

Happy stamping!

Technique Tuesday – Sentimental Journey Collage

Stampin' Up! Sentimental Journey

Collage stamping is a simple technique that is one of favourites. This technique is the layering of images and inks.

The Sentimental Journey stamp set I used here is perfect for collage stamping. A set of 8, it has a variety of sizes and types of images perfect for layering.

I prefer to start with the largest images and then work my way down to the smaller images. This allows me to fill in white space as I work towards the finished product. I also prefer to use the darkest ink colours with the smaller stamps so the collage is not overwhelmed.

You really can’t go wrong with this technique. Try it today!

Island Oasis Mini Album

Island Oasis Mini Album CLosed

Don’t you just think warm weather and lots of tropical fun when you see this Island Oasis designer series paper from the Summer Mini catalogue?

Here I used the Island Oasis paper with the coordinating stamp set, Tropical Party, to make a mini album.  This album is so simple to create.

I ran a square of the Island Oasis designer series paper through my Big Shot with the Petal Card die.  Next, I cut a piece of cardstock to 2-1/2" x 10" and scored at 2-1/2", 5" and 7-1/2" to make the foldout page inside the album.

Lastly, I cut a strip of Old Olive cardstock 3/4" x 7-1/4" to make the belly band closure.

Island Oasis Mini Album OPen

This is the album open to the front page of the foldout cardstock piece. I stamped the front panel with Tempting Turquoise and Pumpkin Pie flowers from the Tropical Party stamp set.

Watercolor Trio in Rich Razzleberry Card

Stampin Up Watercolor Trio

This is so not the card I had pictured in my mind when I started stamping. I knew I wanted to use the Rich Razzleberry Designer Series Paper I just bought and had planned to use a different stamp set and accessories.

Despite the fact this card doesn’t look anything like my plan, I like it. And I am loving the Watercolor Trio stamp set used here. Personally, I often make mono chromatic cards when I am struggling with a design. And that is why you often see one colour cards posted here!

I stamped the image from Watercolor Trio multiple times using different generations of Rich Razzleberry ink. The first time you stamp an image it is called the first generation. If you stamp the image again without re-inking, you now have a second generation image. You can continue with third generations and more until you re-ink the stamp.

Generational stamping is an easy technique that allows for different colours of ink from the same ink pad. It is a great way to stretch your ink investment.

I layered the stamped image onto Rich Razzleberry textured cardstock from the In Color textured cardstock assorted package and then onto Whisper White cardstock. I stamped the greeting onto Whisper White cardstock with Rich Razzleberry ink and punched it out with a 1-1/4" circle. This was adhered to a punched Rich Razzleberry 1-3/8" circle and attached to the image piece with dimensionals.

I created the side panel with Rich Razzleberry DSP, a Whisper White piece of cardstock embossed with the Square Lattice embossing folder and a length of Rich Razzleberry ribbon.

I added three white jumbo brads in the bottom right corner and assembled the card with a 1-3/4" circle of Rich Razzleberry cardstock tucked in behind the stamped pieces.

Not the card I expected to create today but maybe just a little bit better! Hope you like it!

Mostly Vintage Stencil Card

Stampin up canada

I am having so much fun playing with the new Mostly Vintage Decor Stencils and the Smooch Spritz sprays from the Summer Mini catalogue. Every colour combination looks good: Log Cabin on Soft Suede, Sahara Sand and Very Vanilla cardstocks, Vanilla Shimmer on Night of Navy and Bashful Blue cardstocks, Silver Foil on Bashful Blue and Pretty in Pink, Gold Glow on Whisper White and Regal Rose.

I just can’t stop spritzing!

The stencil set has both a positive and negative image included and is perfectly sized to fit on a card. The design is so pretty. In addition to the Smooch Spritz, you can use the decor stencils with ink applying with a sponge dauber. Think of the options – VersaMark and Chalks, Craft ink and embossing powder, Classic ink in various colours and more.

To make this card, I spritzed over the stencil with Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz on Night of Navy cardstock. I highly recommend using the Color Catcher to keep the spray contained. Believe me, I learned this lesson the hard way.

Next, I used a Heat Tool to gently curl my Organza Ribbon and applied it to the card with a length of Bashful Blue grosgrain with a knot of Night of Navy grosgrain on top. I added my greeting from A Little Birthday Cheer in Night of Navy ink and punched out the Whisper White cardstock with the Modern Label punch.   I added a Bashful Blue  layering piece behind the punch made using my Big Shot and the Movers & Shapers dies.

To finish, I added various white pearls from the Pretties Kit and assembled the card on Bashful Blue cardstock.

Other than the optional greeting, there is no stamping on this card. The Decor Stencils are a great alternative to purchasing a stamp set and economical to buy. If you have any questions on these stencils, please contact me.
