Crinkle Technique Snowflakes

Crinkle Technique Snowflakes

Stampin' Up! Serene Snowflakes

This fun card reminds me of the print screened t-shirts that I am seeing in all the stores. The shirts have white on the fabric where it was folded under during the printing process and so the ink did not colour that part of the fabric. Inspiration can be found in so many places.

For this technique, stick pointy strips of low-tack or painters tape onto glossy white card stock. Allow a bit of tape to hang over the edge of the cardstock for easy removal. Sponge or brayer colored ink onto the card stock over the tape. Be careful that the ends do not lift.  Leaving tape in place, stamp images over the colored background. Once dry, remove the pieces of tape.  This technique is featured in the current Technque Junkies newsletter.

If you want to learn more techniques and templates, join me at my Technique Tuesday classes. At each class, we will make 3 cards and/or projects and full written instructions are provided. Click on the events button to the right to see my calendar.

Stampin' Up! Gifts of Christmas

I am usually not a big glitter fan but I can’t stop using glitter on my cards this week! Isn’t there something about a card with sparkle that brightens your whole day?

This card uses the Acetate and Glitter technique. For this technique, you stamp on a window sheet with a permanent ink like StazOn. Once dry, turn the window sheets over and apply Crystal Effects where you want the glitter to adhere. The Crystal Effects does not need to be applied thickly but it need to be consistent. Make sure that there are no lines from the nozzle and that the Crystal Effects fully covers the area where the glitter will be applied.

Cover generously with glitter and tap off excess. Allow to dry fully.

TIP: To test if the Crystal Effects has dried, feel the window sheets from underneath (do not put your finger in the glitter!) and if it is cold to the touch it is not yet dry.

An All-in-One Card and Present

An All-in-One Card and Present

 Stampin' Up! Thoroughly Modern

I really like the look of the Easel card and only wish I had known how simple they are to make sooner.  This card is designed to look like a present so it is a card and gift all in one, don’t you think?

To make this card, I used the Thoroughly Modern designer series paper featuring the Bermuda Bay colour. I love this paper because it can be used for so many cards and seasons. You can get a completely different look by using a Soft Suede paper one day and a Rose Red the next. If you don’t know which paper package to buy first, pick this one!

And the other great thing about an Easel Card is that it flattens to fit into an envelope for mailing. You may want to include directions on the card so the recipient will know how to stand it up.

It Dazzles! A Very Berry Christmas

It Dazzles! A Very Berry Christmas

Stampin' Up! Berry Christmas

I’ll be honest. I would much rather reach for a punch or a Big Shot die than get out my Circle Scissor Plus. It’s partially that the Circle Scissor Plus is less convenient in my stamping room and partially that it seems to require more thought to line up.

But I really wanted to make this card today and the Circle Scissor Plus – $44.95, #112530, page 191 was a necessity. And don’t forget the Glass Mat makes things so much easier.

First, I cut a 2-3/4″ square from the red patterned paper in the Christmas Cocoa Specialty designer series paper. Then to layer behind, I cut a 3″ square of Real Red cardstock and a 3-1/4″ square of Soft Suede. With a ruler, I marked an “X” in the center of each paper. One at a time, I used my Circle Scissor Plus to cut out the center using the “X” to line up against the middle of the circle cutter. My circles were all 2-1/4″. Now, I know none of you think I am perfect and in keeping with that, my circles weren’t really either. So I used a pair of scissors to trim the red cardstock a bit knowing it would be hidden by the top and bottom layers. And a strategically placed knot of Soft Suede ribbon hides my ooops on the red patterned dsp.

Did you know that if your circles don’t look quite round with the Circle Scissor plus you need to turn the tool in the other  direction? As a lefty, I was always going to the left but my circles look much better if I turn right instead

Next, I cut a circle in the Soft Suede cardstock that was the card itself. As I knew that I would probably not be able to line up the Real Red cardstock exactly, I cut a square hole big enough to fit on top of the card front and behind the cardstock square I had made earlier.

The rest of the card was easy! I assembled the front of the card and then closed it so I could stamp the wreath image from Berry Christmas – $30.95, #116509 through the hole onto the Whisper White cardstock.  Opening the card, I finished stamping the inside. With my Big Shot, I cut a sheet of Sticky Page with the Top Note die and  applied it over the stamped image. Dazzling Diamonds glitter was sprinkled on top an the excess shaken off. Finally a length of Real Red ribbon was added to complete the card.  The card is a little bulky in the envelope so it is probably hand deliver only or needs to be placed in a second envy for mailing.

Not a card I would make in large numbers but I like the way it turned out!

Extreme Surfboard Birthday

Extreme Surfboard Birthday

Stampin Up! Extreme Surfboard

In our house, we have a Stampin’ Up! new catalogue tradition. For as long as I have been a demonstrator (7.5 years now), my kids each choose a stamp set “of their own” with a new catalogue. These sets are kept separate from my own but I am allowed to use them!

So, I thought it appropriate to use the stamp set my son chose this year to make his birthday card. As an avid snowboarder, I was surprised when he choose Extreme Surfboard – $11.95, page 80.  And because it is a single stamp, he added Extreme Elements – $35.95, page 81 – to his order as well.

To make this card, I used an Emboss Resist technique. I stamped the largest image from Extreme Elements with VersaMark ink and then stamped the Extreme Surfboard over top with Night of Navy craft ink. Clear embossng powder was applied over the images and heated to melt. To finish, I used a sponge dauber and applied Bashful Blue ink over top. Once dry, I used a tissue to removed the excess ink that was being resisted by the embossing powder.

A simple card but the effect of the water and waves is neat.
