I have to admit that the Newsprint designer series paper pushes me outside my comfort zone a bit.
My usual style is more clean and simple than this paper seems to require from me. As soon as I reach for it, I seem to envision lots of layers and artistic elements. Click here to see another card I made with the Newsprint paper. See what I mean? Lots of layering and pieces.
Now, don’t get me wrong.
I like this paper. I like the fact that it uses only Basic Black and Very Vanilla so it can be sponged and stamped on to create unique looks. I like the way it creates subtle backgrounds and the stamped images remain the focal point. I like the way the designs work well with so many colours and images. And, I even like being challenged by it as a stamper.
For this card, I choose to use the Charming stamp set. I love this set of 7 because it has so many useful elements in it. The flower, frame, greeting and brocade (on the Newsprint DSP) I used on this card as well as a butterfly, background and ornate circle.
This is a great stamp set!
To create the textured Basic Black cardstock piece behind the stamped flower, I distressed the edges of the Basic Black cardstock and then wet it and and crumpled it up. As I was working on the rest of the card and this piece was drying, I would occasionally roll the edges with my fingers. Once dry, I layered it onto a second piece of Basic Black cardstock the same size for added dimension.
I hope this card inspires you to stretch your creativity the next time you stamp!

If the Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder for the Big Shot is not on your new catalogue wish list, add it right now!
I love the design and dimension that this folder adds to papers. And it is a really quick and easy way to add an elegant background to cards. Believe me, without the Vintage Wallpaper background, this card would look plain and unfinished.
I used the Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder to create my Pretty in Pink card and then added a length of Pretty in Pink satin ribbon that I tied with a knot.
Next, I stamped the brocade image from Friends 24-7 in Early Espresso ink. After punching two of the smaller Oval Large pieces, I folded them in half and adhered them in opposite corners. I added a medium pearl to the top of the ovals with a mini glue dot. To finish this piece, I layered a piece of Early Espress cardstock behind and attached the stamped image to the card with dimensionals.
The greeting, also from the Friends 24-7 stamp set was stamped in Early Espresso ink and punched with the Oval Large punch and layered onto an Early Espresso Scallop Oval punched piece of cardstock.
Does this card remind anyone else of Neapolitan ice cream?

This Friends Never Fade card is Bright!
On a rainy day like we are experiencing here today, some colour is appreciated. And I am loving the colours in the new Brights Collection. Definitely a current favourite!
I designed this card around this patterned paper from the Greenhouse Garden designer series paper. This particular paper highlights Real Red, Pumpkin Pie and Pear Pizzazz. So, I coloured the coordinating image from the Friends Never Fade stamp set in the same colours. After colouring the image with markers, I huffed on the image to re-moisten and stamped onto the Whisper White cardstock.
Next, I added the “thanks” image from Thank You Kindly in Real Red below the flower. I thought the curlicue on the greeting worked well with this flower.
All that was left is to embellish – I layered Pumpkin Pie grosgrain ribbon over Real Red satin ribbon and added three Pumpkin Pie buttons with Real Red “thread”.
This card is a little brighter than most but on a day like today stamping such bright colours was a great escape form the dreary weather. Enjoy!
