Gifted Mini Lunch Sack

Gifted Mini Lunch Sack

Stampin Up Canada Gifted Lunch Sack

Need a simple gift packaging idea? I love these little mini lunch sacks.  Sized at 3-1/2″ x 6-5/8″ x 2-1/4″ the mini lunch sacks are just right for small gifts and candy and they are just the right size for easy decorating.

Here, I used the Candy Cane Christmas Specialty Designer Series Paper with Baja Breeze and Whisper White cardstocks. First, I cut out scallop strips of the three papers with the Tasteful Trim XL die seen on page 17 of the Holiday Mini Catalogue. I adhered these strips to the front of the lunch sack slightly overlapping each one.

After stamping the to/from Noel Tag from the Gifted stamp set in Baja Breeze ink, I punched it out with the 1-3/8″ circle punch.  I layered it onto a 2″ circle of Candy Cane Christmas paper made using the Circles #2 Big Shot die and then added a final layer of Baja Breeze cardstock punched with the 2-3/8″ scallop circle.

The final touch was a small bow of Whisper White taffeta ribbon at the top.

This is a really easy project if you need a package for little gifts and token. And the Gift Packaging Bundle is on sale for 20% off right now.

Contempo Christmas Over the Top Card

Contempo Christmas Over the Top Card

Stampin up Canada contempo Christmas

This card is not my usual simple style. I don’t often add lot of layers and adornment to a card but I did for this one. The big Old Olive striped ribbon really adds to the Over the Top feel of this card.

First, I ran a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock through the Big Shot die-cutting machine using the Petals-A-Plenty embossing folder. Next, I adhered the wide and narrow strips of Jolly Holiday designer series paper to the embossed piece and ran it through the Big Shot again using the Top Note die. This was so much simpler than cutting each piece separately and then trying to align each of them.

I added layered squares of Old Olive, Cherry Cobbler and Very Vanilla cardstocks angling them as a diamond between the points of the Top Note. After stamping and punching an Old Olive and Cherry Cobbler ornament, I added them to the card with dimensionals.

Finally, I tied a big bow from the Old Olive striped ribbon and added it to the side of the card with a dimensional.  A step up from my usual cards and definitely a card that needs to be hand delivered. I hope you like it!

Deck the Halls Designer Fabric Card

Deck the Halls Designer Fabric Card

Stampin Up Canada Fabric Card

Except for reattaching a button that has fallen off, I don’t sew.  The last time I touched a sewing machine was in Junior High when I made the mandatory apron in Home Economics. And that was a loooong time ago.

So, when Stampin’ Up! announced they were introducing a new line of fabrics my first thought was “not for me”. But I was wrong!  I love this fabric. The patterns and colours are beautiful.

Now, since I don’t really sew, I knew I wouldn’t be making elaborate projects with these fabrics. And that’s okay because there are so many others ways I can use these fabrics in my paper crafting.

The fabrics are available in two different pattern assortments – Deck the Halls and Candy Cane. Scroll down to see a picture of each package. I love, love, love the way these designer fabrics coordinate with the paper, buttons, stamp sets and more in each of the Vintage and Candy Cane Suites that SU! has introduced for Christmas this year through the Holiday Mini catalogue

For this card, I cut a 2″ x 6″ piece of fabric with my tabletop paper cutter just as I would cardstock. I adhered the ends of the fabric to the back of the Always Artichoke cardstock with Sticky Strip. Taking a length of Always Artichoke Seam Binding, I cut the ends at a sharp angle and threaded one of the Deck the Halls designer buttons in Crumb Cake onto the seam binding before knotting. Add a stamped image and greeting and I’m done. Now, this is really easy card making!

This was one of four cards and projects we made at my Dreaming About Rubber Stamps Team Meeting this weekend.

Cute Christmas Trees

Cute Christmas Trees

Stampin Up A Cute Christmas Card

I love the bright colours in this Candy Cane Specialty designer series paper and how much fun the cards when you pair this paper and the A Cute Christmas stamp set.   Cards made using this combination of paper and stamps really are cute and fun.

This was a really simple card to make and if you are looking to make Christmas cards this year using somewhat non-traditional colours, this union of colours is a great option. The colours included in this Candy Cane paper package are Real Red, Garden Green, Baja Breeze and Blushing Bride. Pink is a really hot colour for Christmas this year. I used markers in the same colours for the three trees except that I substituted Wild Wasabi for the Garden Green since it was a little dark.

To make this card, I layered Baja Breeze onto a Real Red card. I then added a third layer with Perfect Polka Dot embossed Whisper White on the top and Candy Cane DSP on the bottom. To cover up the seam where the two met, I added a length of Real Red wide grosgrain ribbon and a knot at the end.

I stamped the trees in Basic Gray ink and coloured them with the markers. I layered this stamped Whisper White piece onto Baja Breeze and then Real Red cardstocks.

Next, I stamped the greeting in Real Red ink and punched it out with the 1″ circle punch. This piece was layered onto a 1-1/4″ punches circle and added to the card with dimensionals.

Can you see the triangle on the card? The greeting, image and knot of ribbon form a triangle. In photography (and card making), a good tip is to create a triangle on your card. Triangles keep the eye circling around looking at the various elements and thereby focused on the card.  By using three different elements on your cards, page and projects, the viewer finds the subject more attractive.

Technique Tuesday – A Paper Embossing Twist

Technique Tuesday – A Paper Embossing Twist

Stampin Up Canada Woodland Walk

This is an easy technique that requires little time and few tools. It’s a twist on paper embossing with the Big Shot.

Simply run your embosslit or embossing folder through the Big Shot using any designer series paper and then gently rub a sanding block over the embossed portions. Wherever you sand will become white.

Stampin’ Up! designer series papers are printed onto white paper so when you sand, you reach the core of the paper. This technique will not work with our cardstocks since they are dyed differently and the colour is throughout.

I choose to make both of these card using the same colours and layout changing only the embossed images and embellishments. And yet the cards look quite different from each other.  The Woodland Walk designer series paper is quickly becoming a favourite of mine especially when paired with the Growing Green stamp set.

So, which card is your favourite? Please leave me a comment letting me know.

The Manhattan Flower embossing folder was chosen for this card.  I added a “thanks” greeting from Fabulous Phrases in Garden Green ink and Very Vanilla satin ribbon with three Garden Green Regals Brads as extra embellishments.

Woodland Walk by Stampin Up Card #2

This card uses the Hi Embosslit with Woodland Walk paper.  I embellished the card with two Garden Green buttons from the Regals Designer Button package and the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder.

Paper: Woodland Walk DSP (117389), Garden Green (102584), Wild Wasabi (108641), Very Vanilla (101650)

Big Shot: Perfect Polka Dot Embossing Folder (117335), Hi Embosslit (115952)

Other: Sanding Blocks (103301), Regals Designer Buttons (119744), Stampin’ Dimensionals (104430)

Sanding the Embossed Paper

Place the paper flat onto your table and lightly rub the Sanding Block over the top.  Stop sanding when the embossed portion are all white.  Use a gentle touch so you do not sand below the embossed image.
