I love the look of Pinwheel cards and I have received a lot of beautiful samples in swaps. So I decided it was time to make my own. Once I took a good look at how a Pinwheel card is made, I realized it was simpler than I thought.
You need 2 squares of cardstock or paper 2-5/8″ x 2-5/8″ and 8 squares of cardstock or paper 1-1/4″ x 1-1/4″. These squares can be cut out or punched with the 1-1/4″ sqaure punch. Here I used two different paper patterns for the smaller squares.
Follow the instructions below to make the pinwheel and then add a center embellishment to the pinwheel to make it look finished. You can use a brad, button, eyelet or even cardstock to make the center.
Try it and see how quickly you will be making your own Pinwheel cards.

Cut two squares of cardstock 2-5/8” x 2-5/8” and overlap the squares diagonally.

Apply adhesive to one corner of the punched square and place as shown. The corner with glue should be on the outside.

Using a contrasting pattern, adhere the next piece of paper.

Continue until only one square remains.

Tuck the final square behind the first square to finish.

I have loved this Happy Together stamp set since it was first introduced but I have never owned it. Until now!
As a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, I can also earn free Sale-A-Bration stamp sets and this is one I choose with my order. To me, this set just says fun.
I created a background using the Shaved Pastels technique described below and adhered the pastels piece onto Regal Rose and Rose Red cardstock once it was dry. The paper does wave a bit so a little extra adhesive may be required.
Next, I inked up my stamps using the Rose Red and Regal Rose markers and stamped onto Whisper White cardstock. I punched or cut out the images and layered them onto Rose Red cardstock.
To finish the card, I added a piece of Regal Rose cardstock that I had embossed with the Perfect Polka Dots textured embossing folder for the Big Shot and added two lengths of Rose Red grosgrain ribbon.
If you just can’t wait for the Shaved Pastels cardstock to dry on its own you can help it along with a heat gun or blow dryer. Hope you have as much fun making this happy card as I did.

This picture shows the Shaved Pastels in more detail. Can you see the swirls in the pattern?

Using a hobby blade or sharp knife, shave the pastel into the bowl of water.
The pastel will float on top of the water. Gently swirl the water.

Dip cardstock into the water and remove quickly. Let cardstock dry. Try combining different colours of pastels. For more intense colour, you may dip the cardstock a second time into the same or a different colour.

I only clean my desk off when I simply cannot work there anymore. Because there is not one square inch of space left to create.
But there are certain advantages to working this way. Often when I return to my desk I am inspired by some of the products that are still out. And that is what happened with this card.
Since my Encore refill inks and sponge daubers were calling to me, I decided to create another card with the refills. This one uses a technique for layering metallic ink over classic ink. Really simple.
I inked up my Upsy Daisy floral stamp – don’t you love it this set?! – with Night of Navy classic ink and then applied Silver Encore refill over the classic with a sponge dauber. After huffing to remoisten, I stamped onto Whisper White cardstock. I used my heat tool to dry the Silver Encore ink but you could also emboss with clear embossing powder.
The greeting is also from the Upsy Daisy stamp set and fits perfectly into the large oval punch. I love how Stampin’ Up! makes sure so many of the their products coordinate. I layered the greeting that was stamped with Night of Navy ink on Whisper White cardstock onto a Brushed Silver scallop oval punch and finished with with stampin’ dimensionals.
I embellished the card with three silver brads in the bottom right corner. I get so many compliments on my cards when I layer the narrow grosgrain ribbon, here I used Night of Navy, over the Whisper White Organza ribbon that I do it a lot.
I also tried the Silver Encore refill ink over Melon Mambo and Pixie Pink and they looked really pretty as well.
Try this technique yourself and let me know what you think.

It’s Technique Tuesday! Today I want to share a tutorial for Swirled Metallics. This one is really easy but you do need an Encore Metallic refill. If you own either the gold or silver encore pad, you will definitely want the refill to keep the pads looking their best.
But even if you don’t own the pads, there are so many ways to use the refills on their own. Add some to your collection today.

Here is a close view of the Swirled Metallic technique. Doesn’t the Bermuda Bay ink look great with the gold?

Place a drop of the Encore Gold refill onto a non-absorbent material, Here I used wax paper.Next, I added a couple of drops of Bermuda Bay ink refill. You will need more of the Classic ink than the Encore.

With a toothpick, I gently swirled the two inks together.

Finally, I used a sponge dauber to apply the ink to the stamp. You should be able to see both of the inks on the stamp. If needed, add a few more drops of the Bermuda Bay refill ink and sponge onto the stamp again.

I took a class more than 11 years ago that taught me how to make faux tiles. They were gorgeous! We made all kinds of shapes and all kinds of colour combination. I don’t keep alot of the cards I make preferring to give them away but I still have the cards from that class.
But until today, I had never made the Faux Tile technique again. I don’t know why. It’s certainly not hard and it uses supplies I already own.

Here is a close up of the tile so you can see the detail. I am really happy with how this tile turned out.

You don’t need alot of supplies for faux tiles. For this card, I punched a circle from Kraft cardstock. The Kraft is a little bit heavier so I knew it would work well. My punch is a 1-3/8 circle so it fits the image I want to stamp. I used Glassy Glaze embossing powder but clear will also work.

The first colour of Craft ink used was Night of Navy. I covered the circle with ink and then Glassy Glaze embossing powder. Next, I melted the powder with my Heat Gun and let the circle cool completely.
Tip: If you hold your heat tool at 90 degrees above your paper, the paper will not fly away.

I repeated the process with Gold Encore ink.

And again with Bashful Blue Craft ink.

Last, I quickly placed my image that was inked up with gold ink onto the still hot embossed circle.
I left it there for several minutes until the embossing powder cooled off. Remove the stamp.

If I had known how simple this technique is I would have tried it so much sooner. How simple is it? Very!
I cut a piece of aluminum foil to the size I needed for the cardfront with my paper cutter. Then I ran the foil topped with the Whisper White cardstock through my Big Shot with the Finial Press embossing folder. And, that is it! Faux tin ceiling technique.
I purchased some Reynolds Heavy Duty Aluminum Foil for this card but it seemed to be the same thickness as the Shoppers Drug Mart “regular” aluminum foil I already had in my pantry. So, try it with whatever tin foil you currently own.
To finish, I added layered ribbons and a punched greeting. The “Happy Birthday” is from the Vintage Labels set, a free set for Sale-A-Bration. Yes, free!
