The Watercolor Wings Bundle with the Bold Butterfly Framelits was at the top of my wish list from the new catalogue. And I’m so glad it was.
This photopolymer stamp set makes it easy to layer the three images that give such great texture to this big butterfly. I stamped the solid body in Pool Party, added the outer edged shading in Mint Macaron and then added the fabulous inside details with Lost Lagoon ink.
Since I wanted to feature Mint Macaron on this card, I added accents in this color including a striped background piece from the 2015-2017 Envelope Paper package.
I continued the butterfly theme with a new embossing folder called Fluttering and Whisper White Thick card stock. This card stock is a little heavier than the original Whisper White and makes a great card base. It also really shows off the butterflies.
I added a “thanks” made with the Greetings Thinlits along the bottom of the card. And since it needed just a little something more, Metal Rimmed Pearls in three different sizes complete the card.

Have you had a chance to look at the new Stampin’ Up! Canada catalogue? If not, click on the cover below to view it and be sure to request your personal copy.
What is the very first thing I ordered? The new 2015-2017 In Color card stock and ink pads kit. This kit includes card stock in the five new colours as well as the classic stampin’ pads. And my favourite new colour? Honestly, I’m not sure yet. But I do really like the Watermelon Wonder that I used for both of today’s cards.
For this first card, I used Night of Navy and Pink Pirouette with the Watermelon Wonder and also added some gold sequins, ribbon and foil paper.
I stamped and cut out the flower as well as a Mint Macaron stem (another new In Color this year). The greeting was made with the new Banner Triple Punch which is a must have. It cuts the fish tail end onto pieces up to 2″ wide with perfect alignment.

This was a fast card to make because there is no stamping involved. The Neutrals Designer Series Paper Stack takes care of the background and the Fun Flower Punch (a weekly deal right now) made layering the pieces of paper for the flower a snap.
For the flowers, I used the new Cherry on Top Cotton Paper Assortment. The finish on this paper is so smooth and the colours so vibrant. I was afraid that is wouldn’t punch well but it was great to work with.
I layered five of the flowers together after curling the petals up a bit with scissors. The center is punched circles with a Blossom Accent adhered right in the middle. A bit of Dotted Lace Trim and I was done.

I love, love, love to make cards with metallics like gold and silver. And I’m sorry to see the Brushed Silver Card Stock and Encore Ink Pads on the retiring list. If you haven’t added these items to your stamping supplies, I would highly recommend them.
And gold and silver isn’t just for Christmas.
I stamped a background with Night of Navy and Silver Encore ink onto the Marina Mist card stock for this card and layered onto Night of Navy card stock. Next I added an image stamped in Night of Navy ink onto Brushed Silver card stock. The greeting was stamped in Night of Navy ink and then over stamped and slightly offset with silver.
Finally, I added mini silver brads to continue the theme.
Although the retiring stamp sets like Forever Florals will be available until at least May 26, the retiring accessories are only available while supplies last.

I didn’t know what I was missing! I have to admit that I haven’t used the Work of Art stamp set very much until recently. And I don’t know why because this stamp set does all the work. Look at this card – the background, main image and greeting are all from the one stamp set.
For the background, I stamped with colors from the 2014-2016 In Colors – Blackberry Bliss, Lost Lagoon and Hello Honey. I know these colors are made to be used together so it took the guess work out of coordinating colors.
Next I added a layer of vellum with a gold embossed heart and greeting. I also embellished with gold sequin trim and gold foil sheets to continue the gold theme.
I used mini glue dots to adhere the vellum to the card stock placing the glue dots behind the gold embossed images where possible. I also used the mini glue dots to add the sequins to the card. I love the mix of color and gold on this card giving it a modern edge.
Please note that the Clearance Rack will be updated today with products up to 80% off.

To select “You are fabulous” from this Work of Art stamp set greeting, I used the Blackberry Bliss marker to color only the words I wanted, omitting the rest. This was the inside greeting.

One of my favorite techniques is the Smooshing Technique. It is a great way to create backgrounds with all kinds of color combinations. You can keep it monochromatic and use all the same color family like various shades of blue or mix it up for a bold, vibrant background like the one above.
See below for step by step tips as well as another sample card using markers.
I finished this card with a greeting from the Big on You stamp set and some Itty Bitty Epoxy stickers over punched Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack stars.
The Retired List will be available April 21st so please make a note to visit my blog on Tuesday to see a list of all the products retiring from the Stampin’ Up! 2014-2015 catalogue.
Items often sell out very quickly so check back early and place your orders online. We know for sure that all the 2013-2015 In Colors products that include Coastal Cabana, Pistachio Pudding, Crisp Cantaloupe, Strawberry Slush and Baked Brown Sugar will be retiring so be sure to stock up and include the re-inker on your order.

Place three drops of re-inker onto a window sheet.
Here I used Island Indigo, Daffodil Delight and Melon Mambo.

Spritz with water and allow the inks to begin to spread.
Place your watercolor paper on top of the ink and rub gently onto the back of the paper.

For this card, I added three greetings from the @SoSocial stamp set held on with Crisp Cantaloupe Thick Baker’s Twine. The flowers are from Flower Shop.
You can see that the background on this card is lighter in color. I used Coastal Cabana, Crisp Cantalope and Melon Mambo for this card. I find is easiest to make a few background up when my supplies are out so try different color combination until you have a favorite.

You can also use Stampin’ Write Markers for the Smooch Technique.
Color with the markers directly onto the Window Sheet.

Spritz with water and then place the watercolor paper on top.
Gently rub on the back of the paper to help the inks transfer to the watercolor paper.

Another way to add color to your cards is by using a sponge dauber. Pick up some ink from your ink pads with the dauber and burnish the ink over the stamped image. To burnish, you want to make contact with the paper and rub rather than dab the ink onto the card stock.
This card uses an image from the World of Dreams stamp set and a greeting from A Dozen Thoughts. The bow was made with the 1/4″ Early Espresso cotton ribbon.
On top of the Early Espresso stamped image, I added rows of ink in Coastal Cabana, Pistachio Pudding and Baked Brown Sugar.
This clean and simple card is a perfect Simple Saturday card – ready in about 10 minutes. Enjoy!
