Flower Patch Watercolor Card

Flower Patch Watercolor Card

Flower Patch Watercolor Card

If you want to feel like an artist, reach for some watercolor paper.  I don’t know if it is the texture of the paper or the heavier weight but it feels like canvas and that is as close to painting as I’m going to get.

There are two ways to use watercolor paper and inks to create a card like this one. You can wet the paper and then stamp on it. Or  you can do the opposite as I did here. Stamp your images onto the watercolor paper – the colors may look muted. Then spritz gently with water. I like to hold the Spritzer at a distance for a lighter and more even application of water. Wait a couple of minutes for the water to affect the inks and intensify the color. If needed, you can always add more water.

For this card, I used Real Red, Early Espresso, Hello Honey and Tangelo Twist with the Flower Patch stamp set. Inside the card, I added the birthday greeting from the  same stamp set.

Watercolor Wash with Indescribable Gift

Watercolor Wash with Indescribable Gift

Indescribable Gift Watercolor Card

Another way to add definition to your cards is to color a heat embossed image with an aqua painter. For this 5-1/2″ square card, I stamped the flowers from Indescribable Gift onto Shimmery White card stock and heat embossed with white embossing powder.

I then colored the image with an aqua painter filled with water and ink refills in Crisp Cantaloupe, Calypso Coral, Tangerine Tango and Wild Wasabi. Still using the aqua painter, I did a watercolor wash to fill in the white spaces around the image. For the wash, I used Calypso Coral.

Shimmery White card stock makes a great substitute for watercolor paper when using an aqua painter. The card stock holds up to the water and the shimmer adds to the appeal. I find that I need to remind myself not to hold the aqua painter too tightly to avoid extra liquid on the paper. If you do get too much water, use a tissue to lightly absorb the extra and then continue to watercolor.

Don’t forget to check back soon for another coloring technique, there are four more to go.

Just Kidding!

Just Kidding!

Just Kidding Card with Markers

I sat down recently to stamp and somehow starting making cards that all involved different coloring techniques. Some are simple, some more involved but all are a great reminder that ink and paper can combine to make so many variations of color, texture and style. Check back often this week to see more of the coloring techniques.

This card is definitely one of the simple ones but I couldn’t wait to use this new stamp set, Just Kidding. The greetings can’t help but make you smile.

JUst Kidding Stamp Set

After stamping the image and punching it out with the large 2-1/2″ Circle Punch, I colored the image in with the Subtles Stampin’ Write Markers.  To keep the Subtles Collection theme going, I added a piece of Pink Pirouette card stock embossed with the Polka Dot Textured Impression Embossing Folder onto the Pool Party card. I also added a length of Pool Party Cotton Ribbon around the greetings piece.

I love the humor in the Just Kidding stamp set. Maybe you can’t buy happiness but you can stamp a card that will bring a smile to a friend.

Spritzing It Up with Blooming with Kindness

Spritzing It Up with Blooming with Kindness

 Blooming with Kindness Spritzer Card

First, just a quick reminder that today is the last day for FREE shipping. There is no minimum purchase and orders must be placed by 11:50 pm Mountain.

If I had to pick just one stamp set (and I’m so glad I don’t), I think Blooming with Kindness would be it. I love the floral image in this stamp set. You can stamp it and leave it or add color for more impact. I used a Spritzer filled with a couple of drops of Island Indigo ink refill and rubbing alcohol to add a bit of color to this card. The image is just the right size to full up most of the front of the card so very little embellishing is necessary. I added three black candy dots from the Neutrals and that’s all that was needed.

I also love the variety of greetings in this stamp set – thank you, birthday and thinking of you. They really suit almost any occasion. And the two fonts used together are perfect.  Plus there are sentiments for both the front of the card and the inside.

When I need to make a quick card or am feeling less than creative, I reach for this set every time. I don’t think this card took even ten minutes to put together. So, if you haven’t already purchased the Blooming with Kindenss stamp set, be sure to add it to your wish list. Or take advantage of the free shipping and order it today.

Flower Fair Framelits are a Weekly Deal

Flower Fair Framelits are a Weekly Deal

 Flower Fair Framelits Trio

Do you remember all the cutting we used to do by hand to add flowers like these to our cards? I’m so thankful to have a Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine that does all the work for me now.

Since the Flower Fair Framelits are included in the current Weekly Deals, I decided to get them out and make a couple of cards. I love how card stock can replace stamped images for these layouts. The greetings are from the Flower Patch stamp set which coordinates so well with the framelits.

The first card I made was the black and white one below. The patterned paper is from the Stacked with Love Designer Series Paper Stack and has a Basic Black Candy Dot in the center. I usually love black and white cards but this one didn’t really do it for me so I decided to make one more card with some color.

For this card, I used a bright patterned paper as the background and coordinated the same colors for the card – Calypso Coral, Bermuda Bay, Mossy Meadow and Daffodil Delight. The paper is from the Birthday Bash Specialty Designer Series Paper and I love how vibrant this collection is. The center of the flower are pearls.  And I definitely like this card better than the first.

Remember, the Flower Fair Framelits are 25% off right now and free shipping continues with no minimum purchase required.

Rock and Roll, Baby!

Rock and Roll, Baby!

Petal Potpourri Rock and Roll Technique Card

I used the rock and roll technique for this Petal Potpourri card. Ink your stamp up with a light color of ink and then roll the edge of the stamp around on a darker ink pad being careful to avoid inking up the center.

For this card, I chose Crumb Cake and Bermuda Bay as my ink colors and used card stocks in the same colors. A simple “thanks” tag finishes the card.

Try various combinations of inks with bold and line art stamps to create your favorites.
