I’ll be honest. I would much rather reach for a punch or a Big Shot die than get out my Circle Scissor Plus. It’s partially that the Circle Scissor Plus is less convenient in my stamping room and partially that it seems to require more thought to line up.
But I really wanted to make this card today and the Circle Scissor Plus – $44.95, #112530, page 191 was a necessity. And don’t forget the Glass Mat makes things so much easier.
First, I cut a 2-3/4″ square from the red patterned paper in the Christmas Cocoa Specialty designer series paper. Then to layer behind, I cut a 3″ square of Real Red cardstock and a 3-1/4″ square of Soft Suede. With a ruler, I marked an “X” in the center of each paper. One at a time, I used my Circle Scissor Plus to cut out the center using the “X” to line up against the middle of the circle cutter. My circles were all 2-1/4″. Now, I know none of you think I am perfect and in keeping with that, my circles weren’t really either. So I used a pair of scissors to trim the red cardstock a bit knowing it would be hidden by the top and bottom layers. And a strategically placed knot of Soft Suede ribbon hides my ooops on the red patterned dsp.
Did you know that if your circles don’t look quite round with the Circle Scissor plus you need to turn the tool in the other direction? As a lefty, I was always going to the left but my circles look much better if I turn right instead
Next, I cut a circle in the Soft Suede cardstock that was the card itself. As I knew that I would probably not be able to line up the Real Red cardstock exactly, I cut a square hole big enough to fit on top of the card front and behind the cardstock square I had made earlier.
The rest of the card was easy! I assembled the front of the card and then closed it so I could stamp the wreath image from Berry Christmas – $30.95, #116509 through the hole onto the Whisper White cardstock. Opening the card, I finished stamping the inside. With my Big Shot, I cut a sheet of Sticky Page with the Top Note die and applied it over the stamped image. Dazzling Diamonds glitter was sprinkled on top an the excess shaken off. Finally a length of Real Red ribbon was added to complete the card. The card is a little bulky in the envelope so it is probably hand deliver only or needs to be placed in a second envy for mailing.
Not a card I would make in large numbers but I like the way it turned out!
