Collage Curios

For this very feminine card, I paired the Collage Curios stamp set with the Tea for Two designer series paper. The stamped flower matches the flowers in the paper so well.

I used markers to colour directly onto the stamp before stamping onto Very Vanilla card stock. The two colours in the paper – Calypso Coral and Lucky Limeade – are both found in the 2012-2014 In Color Markers set. If you don’t want to invest in the ink pads, the markers are a great way to own all the new In Colors and spend less.

The stamped image was punched out with the Small Oval punch and layered onto a 1″ punched circle of Lucky Limeade card stock. I inserted the image into a Soda Pop Top that I flattened with my Big Shot. Simply sandwich the Soda Pop Top between two clear cutting pads and run it through on tab 1. I tried flattening the Soda Pop Tops with and without an added piece of card stock or lightweight cardboard on top of the Soda Pop Top and thought they warped a little more with the added bulk.

A couple of different ribbons layered together with a big bow and this card was finished. It would be handy to have a few of these on hand and add a greeting inside – happy birthday, thank you, thinking of you – as needed.

Flat Soda Top

Oh to flatten or not to flatten,

that is the questions that I ask of ye…

This first time I made this card I left the Soda Pop Top unflattened as below. But it seemed too harsh for the softness of this card so my final version has a flattened Soda Pop Top. Which do you prefer?

Secret Garden in Black and Grey

I meant for this to be a monochromatic card using blacks and grays but I just couldn’t not add some colour.  I really, really like black and white cards but sometimes black flowers just don’t work for me.

For this card, I stamped the flower using Black StazOn ink and then added the leaves in Basic Gray ink. I stamped twice for each leaf without re-inking in between to get the two shades of gray.

The “Thank You” greeting is from the Essentials set. This set is well named. For $8.95, it includes Happy Birthday as well as Thank You. Just the essentials, right?

The greeting was punched out with the Modern Label punch and adhered to the card with dimensionals. I added a band of Tempting Turquoise card stock topped with Whisper White Stitched Grosgrain ribbon for more colour. To finish the card, I coloured the pearls and added them to the flower centers and the punched piece.

So, what do you think? Do you like the added colour from Tempting Turquoise or would you have preferred the card only in black, gray and white?

By the Tide Canvas Card

I think this card qualifies as a Simple Saturday card since it uses only one colour of ink and has only two stamped images.

To add a bit more texture to the card, I stamped the fish from the By the Tide stamp set onto a Canvas Creations sheet.  To get a good impression on the canvas, I decided to use a really well inked up stamp pad in a darker colour, Island Indigo. The two sides of the canvas sheet have slightly different textures. As one side is smoother than the other, I stamped on both sides to start and decided I liked the look of the smoother side better.

After stamping the canvas, I cut it out with one of the Window Frames Collection Framelit dies. I found the fit was better with the rounded part of the die on top.  Then I created a slightly larger piece from Island Indigo card stock.

I stamped “Happy Birthday” on the bottom of a piece of Crumb Cake card stock and then added a notched strip of paper in the same colours from the Paper Poetry Designer Series Paper Stack #129312. This stack of paper sized 4-1/2″ x 6-1/2″ is perfect for card making. For $8.50, you get 48 sheets of paper – 4 each of 12 doubled sided designers for a total of 24 patterns. I use these sheets alot.

To finish the card, I assembled the pieces using Stampin’ Dimensionals to add the fish piece to the card.

Island Indigo Fish on Canvas

I stamped onto a Canvas Creation sheet with Island Indigo ink and cut the image out with a Window Frames Collection Framelit die. I intentionally made sure that the die did not cut cleanly so the canvas had a slightly frayed look.

  Spring Garden Pool Party Card

This card was made with the Pool Party Embossing Powder (129398), Honeycomb Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (129378) and the Secret Garden stamp set (Wood 129141, Clear 129144). Although I wasn’t sure I liked Secret Garden when I first saw it in the Spring Catalogue, it has become the set I use most.

I paired the Pool Party with Early Espresso and added a Birthday Wishes” greeting from Bring on the Cake (Wood 121899, Clear 121958).

Pool Party has become one of my favorite colours over the last two years and I knew I was going to miss it when it retired in May. But guess what?! It’s going to stick around as one of the Subtles Collection. Stampin Up! has refreshed the colour collections by retiring some colours, bringing a few out of retirement and adding one new colour, Smoky Slate. Can’t you just see the yummy monochromatic cards we can make with Smoky Slate and Basic Gray.

All retiring color products (ink, refills, card stock, paper, ribbon, accessories) will be available only while supplies last. Also, Watercolor Crayons and Watercolor Pencils are now retired.

I was asked recently why so many cards are sized to 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″. I think the primary reason is that it is the best use of 8-1/2″ x 11″ cardstock. A single sheet makes two full cards with no waste. But a card can be any size you want.

Keeping that conversation in mind I decided to make a different sized card today with the Feeling Sentimental stamp set (Wood 129627, Clear 129630) – a Sale-A-Bration freebie. This stamp set was definitely my favourite and the one I used the most.

This card is 4″ x 9-1/4″ to fit a business sized envelope. I used Basic Black, Crumb Cake and Real Red as my colours with an Antique Brad to embellish the greeting flag. All od the imaged including the greeting are in this stamp set.

Swallowtail Resist

Swallowtail Resist

Swallowtail Emboss Resist

When I called this post Swallowtail Resist, I did not mean that you should resist owning this stamp. I love this large butterfly and any stamp that covers an entire card with this much style is definitely one you should own.

Rather I meant that the technique I used on the card was Emboss Resist, an oldie but one that still makes beautiful cards.  I stamped the Swallowtail stamp onto a background paper from the More Amore Specialty Designer Series Paper and then heat embossed with the Pool Party embossing powder. Next, I sponged over the embossed image with a sponge dauber and Sahara Sand ink. Once this ink is dry – it only takes a moment – gently use a paper towel to remove any excess ink from the butterfly. The embossed image resists the ink and retains its original colour and that‘s where this technique gets its name.

I added three tulle flowers from the 5/8″ Flower Trim on the side of the card as an embellishment. The Flower Trim has about 100 flowers on each roll so when you only use a few on each card this product will go long way.

The card was finished with a “just for you” greeting stamped in Sahara Sand ink and punched out with the Extra-Large Oval punch.

I think I can now officially declare Pool Party to be my third favorite Stampin’ Up! Colour. In first place, my favourite is Rose Red and in second place, Not Quite Navy. What is your favourite Stampin’ Up! colour?

Photopolymer Stamps

Photopolymer Flyer Introducing Photopolymer Stamps … We’ve searched long and hard for just the right material to be able to introduce completely clear stamping. And we’ve found it. Our top-quality photopolymer has just enough give to create a perfectly stamped image every time and with the introduction of our firm-foam pads, let’s just say they’re meant for each other!

What makes them so great?

 • They’re entirely transparent for perfect placement every time!
 • They are durable. The photopolymer material is designed to last.
 • Can you say sticky? (Don’t worry; in a good way.) These stamps stick amazingly well to our clear blocks.
 • They’re age tested. They won’t yellow or cloud up over time.

They are clearly a great choice – Designer Typeset #132956, $16.95 for 57 pieces. Click on the flyer for more details.
